Corfu is one of the most popular and beautiful islands in Greece. Corfu's diverse coastline offers beaches that range from glorious sweeps of golden sand and bustling seaside resorts to enchanting white-pebbled coves. Inland the scenery is spectacular, and there is an abundance of charming traditional villages where you still encounter donkeys, occasional traditional costume and of course the gloriously lazy pace of life Greece is so famous for. Corfu has an immensely long and chequered history. Renowned as a place of beauty, culture and hospitality since ancient times, Corfu plays her part in many ancient myths and legends. Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian powers have all held fort on Corfu's shores and although excavations are relatively few there are many traces of these great powers to be found around the island and in the excellent archaeology museum.


The Capital

The capital of the island Corfu town is a joy. Dominated by two impressive Venetian fortresses, graced with the inspired architecture of several different cultures and surrounded by the azure Ionian Sea the old town is a delight to explore. A maze of elegant narrow streets lead the curious onto hidden little platias arcaded avenues and Byzantine churches. A stroll through the park brings you to the sophisticated arcades and cafes of the 'Liston', the perfect place to sit in the shade and indulge in a good coffee or 'ouzo meze'. Shopping is excellent and provides for all tastes. From chic little boutiques and hand crafted jewellery, leather, or art studios to cheap and cheerful souvenir shops, Corfu has it all.


KASSIOPI

Kassiopi is historically a small traditional fishing village. However 2000 years ago it was the capital of Corfu Island. The village lies approximately 40 km from Corfu town (Kerkyra). The attractions of Kassiopi are the picturesque harbour with its terrace bars and fishing boats. The medieval fortress (1386) that has recently been renovated completely. Panagia, Kassiopi's seventeenth century church has several frescoes and icons of great interest. Kassiopi has everything you want for young and old. The gorgeous bays and clear waters make snorkelling and scuba diving very popular, the diving school in the village will give test dives in the swimming pool at the villa upon request. There are many varied walks, road cycle tours and mountain bike trails that can be taken in the area around the village and across the whole island. Kassiopi has a wide range of bars and restaurants and there are plenty of places nearby to visit: Avlaki beach, San Stefanos, the sandy beaches at Kalami and St Spiridon etc. To rent a boat is a different and fun way to visit the small secluded beaches and enjoy a completely different view of Corfu island and its coastline.

Make a point to visit Spiros and his family at the Imerolia Taverna where you are guaranteed the warmest welcome, a wonderful meal in a fantastic beach side setting.

Shopping in Kassiopi can be fun and exciting, from the trinket shops to the olive wood and jewellery offered at the Olive Grove you will find that special piece of memorabilia.

Night Life in Kassiopi can be as diverse as you wish, from wining and dining through to dancing the night away at an air conditioned club or watching others perform authentic local Greek dances. Every age and taste is catered for.
